Why does 6:8 Ministries have a child sponsorship program? We believe that God has called us to help meet the physical needs of those He has placed in our path. We also have a desire to give others opportunities to share in the joy and blessing we have experienced.  It is very important to us that you know that 100% of your gift will go directly to meeting your child's needs. We do not keep any of the funds, we do not charge any type of administration fees.

Why should I sponsor a child?
In Costa Rica, the public school system requires children to wear uniforms to school. Furthermore, the children are also required to purchase all the textbooks and supplies needed for the classroom. Our experience is that the cost is about $240 per child to purchase all of the required items for school. 

Many parents can not afford to purchase these items. This usually result in their children not attending school. Your sponsorship allows your child to get the education necessary to make them successful in life.  

What does my sponsorship include?
Your gift will ensure that your child has all of the basic supplies to attend school. This includes the required school uniform - 2 pair of pants, 2 shirts, 4 pair of socks, 4 undershirts, 4 pair of underwear, 1 belt, 1 pair of school shoes, 1 pair of tennis shoes, and 2 physical education uniforms. It will also get all of the school supplies (it's a very long list!), backpack, lunchbox, school books and registration. It does not include special items such as birthday or Christmas gifts. However, these can be purchased if desired. 

How can I stay connected?
Apart from the blessings and joy, you will also receive a photo and short description of your child's day to day family life. You can also correspond with your child as desired. You can also ask about your child's school progress. We will also send you email updates and electronic scans of the receipts for all purchases. Plus, if you would like, you can come and visit your sponsored child during a short-term mission trip or a family missioncation.    

How do I select a child?
To select a child simply search through our Child Sponsorship Gallery. Look for children that say "I need a sponsor". Once you have selected a child, simply email us with the name of your child. We will respond and post "Sponsorship Pending" on the web-site. Once we have received your initial payment your name will be placed on the web-site as the child's sponsor.    

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?
The cost to sponsor a child is $240 a year. You can also make monthly payments of $20 if this works better for you. However, we do ask that you commit for an entire year if you choose to sponsor a child.
